Our Victor Newman Long-house is one of our largest, warmest, and brightest rooms that is also perhaps are most culturally intriguing accommodation. The Victor Newman Longhouse is unique in the hotel for many reasons. The Victor Newman Longhouse is decorated in museum quality coast Salish First Nations art, features vaunted ceiling with two sky-lights, through which you can star-gaze from the 4-poster King sized bed. The Victor Newman Longhouse also features a unique double-sided fireplace, which can be enjoyed from both the seating area which also has a Queen-sized pull-out hide-a-bed, as well as from the luxuriously deep soaker tub.

The Victor Newman Longhouse can attribute its large size to a design change during the first major renovation and construction period of the Sooke Harbour House. It had become apparent that spacious luxury was of more interest to our guests than having as many comfortable guest rooms as possible in a space. It was easy enough to cross out a wall in the blueprints, but what was to be done about the chimney? Being rather less mobile than a non-load-bearing wall it was again obvious that a change to the original plans was necessary. It was from this happy dilemma that the double-sided fireplace was borne, a feature completely unique in the hotel. This natural division of the room, as well as the planned plumbing for two rooms, allowed for a suite-like feel and the luxury of a bubble bath by the fire.

Local carver Victor Newman has had, perhaps obviously, the biggest design influence on the decor. His contributions include the killer whale mask over the soaker tub, and the authentic Chief's seat. The Victor Newman Longhouse also features Mr. Newman's first canvas painting. An authentic and historically accurate glass-painting of an aboriginal fishing scene by artist Marnie Williams greets you as you enter, and the rooms library features Canadian Aboriginal artists such as the celebrated Haida artist Mr. Bill Reid.

Let the Victor Newman Longhouse complete your enlightening experience by immersing you in the mythology of the aboriginal people of British Columbia. Let the Sooke Harbour House complete this experience by offering you everything quintessential to Vancouver Island; truly one of Canada's natural and cultural marvels.
