Pinot vs. Merlot - Our November Wine Tasting

November 29th
Pinot vs. Merlot: ($50.00)

The King of Red Grapes in North America was toppled from the sales charts
nearly four years ago after more than a decade’s reign. Merlot still dominates
Pinot Noir in the global scene but domestically the race is much closer- all
brought to forefront by the accusations of a Hollywood movie.

A Merlot, as a whole or in part, is one of the most planted red grapes in the
world and shines brightly in some of the worlds most sought after wines. It
can make wines of plush wines of power, hedonistically orientated or elegantly
layered with precision and complexity. Pinot Noir is a difficult animal to
tame in both the vineyard and the cellar. It expresses the Jungian duality
more aptly than any other grape. From bright and cheerful to dark and
brooding- Pinot Noir can produce wines of incredible grace, elegance and
ethereal charm

We’ll examine examples of both wines, domestically sourced and from origins
abroad, looking for the traits, style, wit and poise to see what merit the
Hollywood accusations stand on.
