For all who missed our first event on October 23rd, we offer another opportunity to join us for an amazing mushroom foray, informative presentation and masterpiece 4 course dinner of wild mushrooms, prepared by our chefs who have had the chance to work with over 25 wild mushroom varieties all year around and are able to present each at it’s best as well as surprise you with creative uses of wild mushrooms right down to a mushroom ice cream.
Please join us. The foray begins at 11am at Sooke Harbour House and is free to Slow Food members and is by donation to participants who are not Slow Food members. Dinner begins at 7pm and is $60.00 to Slow Food members and $70.00 to non-members.

A Mushroom Dinner! After a mushroom foray in the wilderness of our beautiful West Coast
1. Matsutake Broth in tea cup with an herb under liner and an array of mushrooms to add to the broth or eat on their own, sea salted egg yolk and nasturtium petals, nettle emulsion, shungiku leaves
2. A composition of:
Bear’s Head and spot shrimp, grape seed mushroom reduction vinaigrette, pickled Hedgehogs
Pear poached white Chanterelle sushi style with Nori topping, shaved thin with a tiny bit of Kombu salt
Porcini Quinotto simply done with trimmings of other mushrooms as well, fried Boletes
3. The Wild Plate:
Eric Whitehead’s harvest of BC Morel mushrooms stuffed with mascarpone polenta and wild herbs, rustic Italian arugula, shaved Metchosin apples and braised Sidney Island Fallow Deer neck croquette style with shallots and a mushroom hunter’s stew of all your find, red wine and nodding onions grilled, leek oil, Boletus and Red Fife soil with quince and pumpkin sauces
4. Dessert:
Kaboucha squash pie, topped with tuberous begonia mousse, glazed white bergamot and Japanese plum cherry, served with squash puree, Candy Cap mushroom ice cream, Candy Cap mushroom jelly, meringue mushroom and candied chanterelles.”

Join Sinclair Philip and his knowledgable friends in an educational and fun wild mushroom foray focusing on local, wild, edible mushrooms. This foray is for the beginner mushroom hunter. You will learn about several edible mushrooms and visit our beautiful forests. Upon return to Sooke Harbour House that afternoon, Sinclair Philip will show a Power Point Presentation on edible mushrooms. The event will conclude with a 4 course “All Mushroom Dinner”. Dinner will start at 7pm in the Garden room at Sooke Harbour House.

For Thanksgiving, if you do not want to cook, our team of talented chefs will do a Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings take out style.

Our October and November Artists of the Month show and sale will feature the works of Merlayna Snyder, James Atkin, Jack Stevenson and Aivars Logins. Open for viewing from September 28th until November 28th, come and see the magnificent wood creations ranging from wall art to jewelry. An artists reception will be held on Sunday, October 2nd from 1-4 pm with artists in attendance. Everyone is welcome. This is a free event.

If meandering is more your pace than racing, we have an event for you. On October 9, 2011, interested foodies are invited to pack their bike and head to Sooke, B.C. to discover local flavours on two wheels. The inaugural Sooke Slow Food Cycle (SSFC) will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. beginning at Sooke Harbour House, located 40 minutes from downtown Victoria.
The self-guided tour will take interested visitors past 20 plus farms, homes, businesses and green spaces where they can partake in mini-workshops, enjoy demonstrations and learn about everything from urban gardens and backyard chickens, to worm composting, edible seaweeds and solar power.
Invite friends, colleagues, bring your family… let everyone know about this first annual event taking place in and around Sooke….. breath the fresh air, meet wonderful people, farmers, artists…. be Green all over.
