Icarus and his flock

Things are growing, even with our unusually cooler weather, Jill has been very busy  after building a deer proof fence, she has cleared the land of all the huge blackberry patch  home of all the deers! ,tilt, built our beautiful chicken coop to welcome our gorgeous rooster Icarus.  She made our little farm house very welcoming to our Wwoofers. We already have had wonderful people come and stay at the farm and help plant  the seeds, tranplant blueberry and raspberry bushes, put up the big green house beside our two smaller ones, pull up the weeds and again pull up the weeds….. Here are a few photos of all this hard labour.baby chinese greens 271x300 From Jill our Farmer woman extraordinaire a few photos of what is happening our our newly created Sooke Harbour Farm

Sooke Harbour Farm

webJillAtFarm Sooke Harbour FarmThe Sooke Harbour Farm is part of the original Sooke Harbour House property/acerage which was originally owned by Mr.Kohout.  Sooke Harbour Farm will be growing organically berries, fruit, vegetables and herbs to help sustain the Sooke Harbour House’s restaurant kitchen. This is in keeping with the Sooke Harbour House sustainability and local philosophy. The farm will be a production and educational farm where tours and workshops will be held for community and guests of the hotel. The farm cottage is one of the last remaining buildings of the original camp property and it now houses workers who come to participate in the international WWOOFer program.

We want to bring peoples’ awareness back to the land and the food they eat. We have lost our understanding and relationship with what sustains us and builds our health. Part of our goal is to bring that understanding back and inspire others to plant and grow, even if it’s just one container at a time.
