August 07, Nancy Powell
Nancy Powell started blacksmithing at the Sooke Regional Museum in 1991. Enchanted by the noise, smell, dirt and sparks, she forged a career for herself as an artist. Using a combination of modern and old tools, she creates her art freehand, without jigs or forms. Nancy hammers out a wide variety of original pieces, from kitchen and bathroom fixtures to exquisite mermaids.
September 07, Craig Benson
Craig Benson The raw piece and its life force suggest a creature within; Craig carves to "release" the creature. His works have been featured in many prestigious exhibitions over the years and he was one of the first artists to have works included in the private collection of Sooke Harbour House. (Despite persistent offers, Frederique will not part with one of his earlier works, a carved seal that resides in the dining room at Sooke Harbour House.).
