Will Julsing
Commemorative Art Show

The Sooke Harbour House Gallery is proud to present a commemorative showing of Will Julsing’s bold oil paintings, on display only, from March 1st – 31st, 2007. Will was born in Groningen, Holland in 1942 during the German occupation. He studied art at the Academie of Art in Groningen and later at Academie Artibus, in Utrecht, Holland. After his art training, he worked commercially for a time. Then in 1966, he was one of 20 painters chosen to represent Holland in an exhibition that toured various European countries. The next year, he made his home in Canada and has exhibited widely here and in the U.S.
His work is strong, brooding, often with a somewhat eerie quality. He has achieved his look with a blend of oil paint and gold; this blend has become somewhat of a trademark as well as the archetypal figures he loved to portray. Though a moody alienation cloaks these sombre figures, Will’s sense of fun and humor is made apparent in most of his work.
Will passed away in October of 2006 at his Glenora home and studio, just outside of Duncan, B.C.
